OTHER SURGERIES

Iridoplasty Surgery
Some patients have a damaged or deformed iris (the colored tissue that lies behind the cornea but in front of the natural lens or artificial lens). The most common causes are previous injury to the eye or surgery with loss of iris tissue or development of adhesions. A deformed iris can block vision, cause light sensitivity or glare, and can also be cosmetically unattractive.

This plastic surgical procedure consists on repairing the abnormal shape of the iris.

Pterygium Surgery

In Pterygium Surgery, the abnormal tissue is removed from the cornea and sclera (white part of the eye). Eyedrops are used to anesthetize the surface of the eye, after which a small device is inserted to hold the eyelids apart. An anesthetic is given.

No sutures are required usually. An eye patch is generally worn for two days. The eye may be red for about two weeks, but ultimately there is almost no scar. If pterygia are present in both eyes, the second eye is operated at least one week after the first.

OTHER SERVICES

Contact Lens Fitting
Accurate prescriptions for contact lenses can only be issued after several steps are taken that are not included in a routine eye exam. If you are interested in contact lenses, be sure to let your doctor's office know at the time you schedule your appointment and they will set up a contact lens fitting in addition to your eye exam.

The contact lens fitting involves special measurements of the curvature of the front surface of your eye (contact lenses that are too flat or too steep for the shape of your eyes will be uncomfortable and/or can cause damage to the cornea), as well as an evaluation of the tear film on the front of your eyes and an evaluation of the health of the cornea with an instrument called a slit lamp. This is to make sure there are no other problems that could make contact lens wear difficult for you.

Next, trial lenses may be applied to your eyes and evaluated to judge the fit of the lenses and how much they move with each blink.

Finally, a review of how long to wear your lenses and how to care for them is an important part of the contact lens fitting.
